The OHT Regensburg has taken over the estate of Friedrich Mielke and established the Institute for Staircase Research. Friedrich Milke introduced the term “scalalogy” for staircase science and devoted his life to stairs from an art historical perspective. Whether staircase research can actually be considered a science remains to be seen. Nevertheless, his extensive collection – which nobody wanted at first – is now available to students and other interested parties at the OHT, and that is certainly a good thing.
